A tea vendor, Abdulrashidu Ya’u, has been arrested for the alleged killing of a 20-year-old man, Hassan Garba in Jigawa State
The incident took place in Sararai village within the Jigawar Tsada area of Dutse Local Government on the morning of August 19, 2024. According to the Jigawa State Police Command, the suspect accused Garba of stealing items such as bread, milk, noodles, and petrol from him.
The suspect, frustrated by the repeated thefts, had previously informed the victim’s parents but felt that no action was taken. On the day of the incident, Ya’u reportedly caught Garba, tied him up with a rope, and secretly whipped him. Neighbors heard the cries of the victim but were unable to intervene until the police arrived. By then, Garba had been severely beaten and was rushed to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police have confirmed the arrest of Ya’u, who admitted to the crime during interrogation. He is currently being held by the State Criminal Investigation Department and will be prosecuted once the investigation is complete.

In a separate incident, a stolen motorcycle was recovered by the police in Hadejia Local Government Area. The motorcycle, belonging to Mamuda Yusuf, was stolen from Hadejia General Hospital on August 20, 2024. The following day, police arrested a 24-year-old suspect, Aliyu Aliyu, who confessed to the theft. He has since been charged to court for prosecution.
