In a recognition of bravery and professionalism, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Buba Marwa (retd.), has granted special promotions to eight officers of the Agency’s Marine Command.
These officers were instrumental in intercepting a drug smuggling operation on the Lagos waterways, where illicit substances were being transported from Ghana to Nigeria.
The operation, which took place on August 23, 2024, around 3 AM, resulted in the arrest of a drug trafficker and the interception of two boats carrying 60 jumbo bags of illicit drugs. The officers who received the promotion include Dick Aaron Dick, Alabi Mayowa, Gabriel Ubokikwan, Aso John, Abdul Sule, Ngabolo Victor Sonpano, Jonah Sule, and Membe Gabriel.
During a ceremony held in Abuja on Thursday, Marwa personally decorated the officers with their new ranks and presented them with commendation letters. He praised their determination and courage in thwarting the smuggling attempt, emphasizing that their actions reflect the new, resolute NDLEA.
Marwa stated, “This operation tells the world a story about the new NDLEA we are working hard to build. Our officers demonstrated exceptional bravery in preventing 60 jumbo bags of illicit drugs from entering Nigeria. Their actions are a testament to our commitment to rewarding hard work, results, and sacrifice.”
He further highlighted the importance of the Agency’s presence on the waterways, noting that the successful interception signals to criminal elements that the NDLEA is vigilant across all trafficking routes.
Speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, team leader Aaron Dick expressed their gratitude for the recognition and vowed to continue their dedication to duty. He noted that the promotion and commendation would inspire both the team and other personnel within the Agency to maintain exceptional performance in their duties.
