The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) has recognized one of its employees, Auwal Ahmed Dankode, for his remarkable integrity after he returned a missing $10,000 that he discovered while cleaning an aircraft at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano.
Rush Online previously reported that Dankode, the cleaner, found the cash while servicing Egypt Air’s MS 878 flight on Wednesday. The money had been inadvertently left behind by a passenger. Without a second thought, Dankode immediately reported the discovery to the airline’s station manager.
In appreciation of his honorable deed, Dankode was honored at a special ceremony held at NAHCO’s headquarters located at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
At the ceremony, Auwal Ahmed Dankode received honors not only from NAHCO but also from the National Orientation Agency (NOA), which recognized him as the “Nigerian of the Week.” The agency commended his integrity and urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to follow his exemplary example.
Mr. Indranil Gupta, NAHCO’s Group Managing Director and CEO, announced a series of rewards for Dankode, which included a significant cash prize, an immediate promotion, and his designation as a brand ambassador for NAHCO.
“We are truly proud of the exemplary character exhibited by Auwal. “He is a true NAHCO ambassador and an embodiment of what NAHCO stands for honesty, integrity, diligence, and hard work.” Gupta has stated.
Dankode, accompanied by several family members at the event, expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the recognition and vowed to continue embodying the values that led to this honor.
In his new role as a brand ambassador, Dankode will represent NAHCO at significant events nationwide, promoting the company’s brand and engaging with important stakeholders.
Some netizens expressed that they might not have returned the money had they been in Dankode’s position. In response to why he chose to return the cash, Dankode stated that his upbringing taught him not to take what did not belong to him.
