In a statement shared on his general communication WhatsApp platform on Saturday, September 7, Ngelale disclosed that he submitted a memo to the Chief of Staff on Friday, September 6, outlining his decision to step back from his duties. This includes his roles as Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.

Ngelale explained that his decision came after consultations with his family regarding a worsening medical situation at home. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing family health during this challenging time.

He expressed optimism about returning to full-time national service once circumstances allow.

He also requested privacy for his family during this difficult period.

The leave of absence is effective immediately, with no set date for his return.

In his statement, he said: “On Friday, I submitted a memo to the Chief of Staff to the President, notifying my office that I am taking an indefinite leave of absence to directly address medical issues currently impacting my immediate family.

While I fully understand that the affairs of state cannot be paused for anyone, this difficult decision—requiring a temporary suspension of my roles as Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Official Spokesperson, Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen—was made after extensive discussions with my family over the past few days, as a troubling medical situation at home has escalated.

I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to return to full-time national service when circumstances, healing, and fate allow.

I kindly request privacy for my family and myself during this challenging time.”
