The Libyan Football Federation is currently in a state of concern following a request from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to submit documentation regarding the cancellation of their AFCON qualifying match against Nigeria.
This situation arose after Nigeria’s team refused to participate in the match due to their plane being diverted to Labraq Airport and being held there for 18 hours without adequate food and water.
According to reports from Libya Al-Ahrar Channel, Nasser Al-Suwaie, the Secretary-General of the Libyan Football Federation, stated that CAF has set a deadline of the 20th of this month for both the Libyan and Nigerian football associations to submit relevant documents related to the incident.
Al-Suwaie mentioned that the Libyan FA has engaged a specialized lawyer to gather evidence for their case and hinted at potential collusion involving certain parties within CAF.
However, he expressed confidence in the strength of the Libyan Federation’s position regarding this matter.
Al-Suwaie emphasized that the Libyan Football Federation did not alter the flight’s landing destination to Al-Abraq Airport; rather, this decision was made by the Libyan government.
He insisted on the importance of respecting Libya’s sovereignty in this matter.
