The Presidential Initiative for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has begun distributing 1,000 conversion kits in various states across the country to mitigate the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.

During a news conference in Abuja to announce the launch of the distribution of 1,000 conversion kits across several states, Michael Oluwagbemi, the Programme Director of the initiative, stated that this effort aims to reduce transportation costs. He mentioned that the initiative is expected to create over 100,000 direct jobs within the next three years, with plans to convert approximately three million vehicles during that time.

Oluwagbemi also indicated that commercial transport operators will receive conversions at no cost to help lessen the impact of the fuel subsidy removal by lowering transportation expenses. Additionally, Moses Onate, the Warehouse Manager of the PiCN facility, revealed to reporters some of the conversion kits at their warehouse in Ibafo, Ogun State. He noted that the distribution will occur on a ‘First Come, First Serve’ basis.

He indicated that 450 conversion kits have already been distributed to various states, with another 550 ready for distribution. Onate stressed the importance of Nigerians embracing this initiative, pointing out its potential to substantially lower fuel costs for powering vehicles. The conversion kits are specifically designed to allow vehicles to operate on compressed natural gas, which is a cleaner and more cost-effective alternative to petrol.
