One dead, 14 rescued as police foil kidnapping attempt in Katsina

A victim of kidnapping for ransom has reportedly succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment following gunshot wounds by armed bandits in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The deceased was among two rescued victims who had suffered gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention by the police in the state.

The incident occurred yesterday, at about 1955 hrs, after some suspected bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically, attacked two commercial vehicles at Dan’arau village along Magama Jibia road in Jibia LGA, Katsina State, in an attempt to kidnap the occupants.

In response, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Jibia, led a team of operatives to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel.

“On November 24th, 2024, at about 1955 hrs, suspected armed bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically, attacked two (2) commercial vehicles at Dan’arau village along Magama Jibia road in Jibia LGA, Katsina State, in an attempt to kidnap the occupants.

“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia led a team of operatives to the scene, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun duel, successfully foiled the kidnapping attempt, and rescued fourteen (14) victims.

“Two rescued victims suffered gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention. Unfortunately, one victim succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.”

He said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects as the investigation proceeds.

“The CP, while commending the officers’ exceptional display of gallantry and dedication to duty, charged officers to sustain the tempo. He further urged members of the public with useful information on suspected criminal activities to report to the nearest police station promptly”.
