Jeremiah Fufeyin, the Senior Prophet of Christ MercyLand Deliverance Ministry in Abuja, has refuted claims that his ministry misuses the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to mislead the public regarding spiritual items.
In a statement released on Sunday by the church’s media team and signed by Sophia Iloyd, the ministry called the allegations “false and misleading.” This response came after NAFDAC issued a warning about the church’s activities, accusing Fufeyin of using the agency’s name to deceive the public.
The church emphasized its commitment to being a law-abiding institution that respects NAFDAC and the laws of the land.
The church underscored its operation under the protections of Sections 38 and 39 of the Nigerian Constitution, which ensure freedom of religion and expression.
We are guided by our faith and the teachings of the Bible,” the statement read. “The use of spiritual items is a reflection of our religious beliefs.”
Additionally, the church firmly rejected claims from the publication that NAFDAC had issued a warning regarding the ministry’s activities.
At no time has our church misled the public. We do not produce or sell consumable items, nor have we ever used NAFDAC’s name for such purposes,” the statement asserted.
The church clarified that the only complaint against it is a petition from Mr. Martins Vincent Otse, known as Verydarkblackman, which has led the church to take legal action over various allegations.
Fufeyin’s ministry acknowledged receiving a letter from NAFDAC dated August 27, 2024, inviting the church’s spiritual leader for an inquiry regarding the use of miracle and healing items. However, they noted that they were given less than 12 hours to respond and had already communicated their position to NAFDAC through official channels.
The church also claimed that the complainant, Otse, submitted forged receipts to support his allegations against the ministry. They asserted that these receipts differed from those typically issued by the church’s accounting office, containing discrepancies in dates and details.
We have informed NAFDAC that the receipts submitted by the complainant are currently under police investigation. Despite this, NAFDAC has yet to respond to our correspondence or provide any feedback on the situation,” the statement concluded.
