Tinubu calls for peace,civility in Edo state Governorship election

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged all stakeholders involved in the upcoming Edo State governorship elections to act with peace and sportsmanship.

The election is set to take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024. In a statement released on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), the president urged governorship candidates, political parties, and their supporters to honor the democratic process and respect the will of the people.

It said, “He believes in the voters’ ability to make informed decisions about their future leaders.    President Tinubu emphasises that democracy thrives on civility, tolerance, patience, and respect for the rules of the game,” the statement said in part.

Tinubu emphasized that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is dedicated to facilitating a free and fair election. He called on all stakeholders to collaborate in order to ensure a smooth and peaceful electoral process.

The president praised the governorship candidates and political parties for their campaigns, which have centered on key issues affecting the people of Edo State, such as enhancing livelihoods, fostering economic growth, and supporting national development. He urged all citizens in the state to maintain peace and respect during the voting process. Additionally, Tinubu encouraged them to address any disputes through the appropriate authorities in a constructive manner.

In addition, President Tinubu expresses unwavering confidence in the professionalism and integrity of security agencies and INEC officials.

He urges them to remain impartial and avoid any actions that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process.”
