2022/2023 session: UNILORIN announces dates, details for 39th convocation

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has released the official dates and schedule for its 39th convocation ceremonies for the 2022/2023 academic session.

In a statement addressed to the graduating students by the university’s registrar, M.A. Alfanla, the event will run from Friday, 11th October to Sunday, 27th October 2024, at the main campus.

The convocation will commence with a Juma’at service at the UNILORIN Central Mosque on Friday, 11th October, followed by an interdenominational service at the Chapel of the Light on Sunday, 13th October.

Key events include the Vice-Chancellor’s press briefing on Thursday, 17th October, and the convocation lecture on Friday, 18th October by Chief Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN, the Honourable Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation. The lecture, titled *Nurturing Democratic Values for the Future of Education in Nigeria*, will address significant educational challenges.

Convocation ceremonies will begin on Monday, 21st October, at the university auditorium with the awarding of four-year first degrees and diplomas to students from the Faculties of Arts, Basic Medical Sciences, Communication and Information Sciences, Education, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences, Management Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences.

The second day, Tuesday, 22nd October, will feature the graduation of students from five- and six-year programs, as well as the awarding of postgraduate degrees to students from the Faculties of Agriculture, Engineering and Technology, Environmental Sciences, Basic Clinical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Law, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Sciences (OP), and Veterinary Medicine.

Graduating students are required to make the necessary payments for academic gowns, transcripts, and convocation materials, with fees ranging from N15,000 for PhD students to N26,500 for undergraduates.

In addition to academic events, there will be social activities, including a convocation luncheon and project commissioning by the university visitor.

The convocation will conclude with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, 27th October 2024, at St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy, UNILORIN.
